This new dwelling on the Cornish coast was designed to reflect the county’s industrial past. Seen silhouetted in the surrounding landscape, this monolithic form is presented as an antidote to the contemporary predilection for lightweight, glazed frame buildings.  First and foremost a family home, the simple palette of slate and tin underline a visceral security and permanence. Defiantly occupying its elevated position, the house confidently braves the elements. Carefully positioned apertures frame both its immediate surroundings, the middle distance and the horizons beyond.
